Boko Haram Crisis Plunges Borno into Total Blackout

The Boko Haram crisis has plunged troubled Borno state into total blackout for over a month and caused reduction of revenue to the power generating company in the area, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, it has been discovered.

An official of the company who spoke anonymously in Maiduguri as he was not authorised to speak to the press, said: "The destruction and cutoff of 132 KV Damboa-Maiduguri electricity line by Boko Haram last month has plunged Maiduguri metropolis, other towns into darkness, with millions of naira lost in sales revenues."

He noted that: "The destruction of the National Grid Power line, occurred on Friday, July 4, 2014 when the gunmen clashed with troops of 7 Division of Nigerian Army near Bulabulin Ngarwa village, and cut off the power lines that supplies electricity to Borno state."
